recommendation

I need a recommendation. Anyone who is familiar with Sufjan Stevens....what is your favorite album and why? (Besides the Christmas album) I'll need a 100 word essay. (or just a few words will work as well.) And Micah...I very much enjoyed your Jeremy Enigk selection. Thanks for sharing.

I have always been keen on seven swans. Possibly because it was the first I heard, but I still enjoy it every time I listen to it. Eeat your rabbit is possibly the biggest mistake I have ever made in my life. I am not saying it is not good, but I am saying sufjan's creativity is beyond me.

Illinoise blew me away but I listened to it TOO much. I would have to say Welcome to Michigan is my all-time favorite. Hard to choose.

I personally like Illinois the best. For one it is cool because I am from IL and I can relate to some of the songs. Also I think that it is the best crafted CD. The lyrics are more compelling and the musical arrangements are better. Why are you asking?

This may or may not help b/c it doesn't actually determine a favorite, but here goes:

Michigan and Illinois are pretty much equal in my books. Michigan holds a special place in my heart as the first album of his I heard. Illinois has a bit more polished feel and bigger orchestrations.

Seven Swans probably has the most "emotional" impact on me. It's much more stripped down, heartfelt sound. Plus, it doesn't have the constraints of a topical album.

Jackson's pretty right on about Enjoy Your Rabbit. Anything pre-Michigan is a bit too unique for uniqueness sake. Or I just may be too musically ignorant to understand the complexities...but I'm okay with that.

Thanks everyone! That was very helpful as I'm trying to choose the next CD to buy. The reason I'm asking is because I am a thoughtful purchaser of CD's and I'd like to know that I'm getting a bang for my buck.
